Rev. Karen Bridges
ReverendRev. Karen Bridges was called to Robertson-Wesley United Church in 2010. Her ministry focus is community outreach and partnership, children, youth, family, young adult and arts ministry, along with worship and pastoral care.
Her B.A. degree from the University of Alberta, with a Drama major and Religious Studies minor, along with her Master of Theological Studies from St. Stephen’s laid a foundation for her path to Ordination which was completed at the Vancouver School of Theology. The practice of discernment has been vital to her ministry at Robertson-Wesley, as she seeks to find ways to life faithfully in a time of uncertainty, where globalization and mass displacement have resulted in isolation and an ever expanding divide between people.
Karen is guided by the belief that God is calling Christians to practice radical hospitality with strangers where truth is spoken in kindness and, compassion and grace are offered to all people. She believes strongly that the ARTS are the path between the sacred and secular where justice and healing can happen for all.

Rev. Dirk Jessen
ReverendThe child of German immigrants to Canada, Rev. Dirk spent his early, formative years on a farm near Tofield, Alberta where he got his entire 1-12 education. While in Tofield he became interested in running and soccer. He ran middle distance track races and cross country all three years of high school. He played his first organized game of soccer for his school team in Grade 11. While still in high school, he also found that he had an affinity for drama.
For a number of summers and immediately after graduating from university, Rev. Dirk worked at the Ukrainian Village Historic Site, where he was able to combine drama with history as well as develop teaching skills. During a brief teaching career in Sherwood Park and Edmonton, he realized that he had to pursue a call to ministry in The United Church of Canada and attended theology at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax and was ordained in 1997.
Since ordination, Rev. Dirk has served in congregations in Nanton, Edmonton, and Devon. In these ministries, he has worked as both a team and solo minister. He was also Chaplain at Grande Cache Medium Security Institution on an interim basis. He continues to be actively involved in soccer. Recently he has also rediscovered a love for nature and particularly enjoys exploring the many creek ravines in Edmonton, more often than not picking up garbage in the process.
