Chapel Communion

An informal style communion service with shared reflections on the scripture readings of the day. Last Sunday of every month at 9:00 am in the chapel.

Koinonia

Meaning "fellowship" in Greek, KOINONIA is a monthly Alternative Worship and Fellowship service emphasizing informality, fellowship and lay leadership. Koinonia's nearly forty-year history is unique among Edmonton United churches and for many participants, has been instrumental in developing knowledge and confidence in expressing their faith. Teams of 3 to 5 lay leaders (with some help by the ministerial staff) plan and lead each service.

Program

Koinonia typically meets the 4th Sunday of each month, beginning with a potluck supper at 5:30 followed by worship, and concluding by approximately 8:00 pm. Annual events include a weekend retreat at Rundle's Mission at Pigeon Lake in January, the Easter Sunrise Service and breakfast, an outdoor picnic and service in late June, a BBQ and planning session at the end of August, hosting of the Sunday Sundae Sing, and finally in December a Progressive Dinner.

Welcome

A warm welcome is extended to anyone wishing to experience lively conversation over the supper table and friendships that develop from sharing faith journeys.

Soul OUTing

A safe place where LGBT persons can explore the sacred and connect with one another, this informal service is part worship, part bible study, part sharing circle. It's held in the chapel on the second Sunday of the month at 7 pm. The June "Soul OUTing" is a special service celebrating Pride Week.

Other Possibilities?

Based on need we have offered other alternative worship services on occasion, including eco-centred worship, Taizé-style prayer and quiet meditation. If you have an idea for an alternative worship service you would like to help organize, let us know. We would love to explore that with you!
